A Quality Improvement Strategy in Nursing
A quality improvement strategy is usually focused on examining and improving processes in organizations. It is possible to apply different organizational strategies in healthcare settings to improve patients’ health outcomes and increase their satisfaction with care. In this context, it is possible to use care improvement strategies in a hospital-based on the Six Sigma approach. This strategy is grounded in prioritizing projects, and the key steps are defining, measuring, analyzing, improving, and controlling outcomes (McEwen & Wills, 2019). An example of the quality improvement strategy based on the Six Sigma approach to be used in nursing is the implementation of the intervention to prevent patients’ falls.
Quality interventions based on the Six Sigma approach, including the prevention of fall intervention, are often applied in nursing practice because the identified steps allow for determining the project’s importance for improving the care quality. When identifying the fall problem in healthcare settings, it is necessary to define it, measure rates and risks for patients, analyze results, implement the intervention, and control received outcomes (Al Kuwaiti & Subbarayalu, 2017). It is possible to state that the assimilation of such strategies can significantly enhance leadership because of contributing to developing skills in prioritization and decision-making. In this case, healthcare and nursing leaders are expected to make reasoned decisions and address the organizational goals focusing on patients’ satisfaction.
The use of the 7th APA style edition published by the American Psychological Association is important to guarantee that all citations and references in research papers are formatted effectively to avoid plagiarism. Much attention should be paid to not only formatting citations but also presenting full information on used sources, including a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) for online articles. It is necessary to guarantee that all sources mentioned on a reference page are listed in the text as properly formatted in-text citations. The examples of citations used in a comparison research paper are followed:
- Paraphrasing: Finally, she stated that there are three specific types of comfort that are relief, ease, and transcendence, which are available for patients (Oliveira et al., 2020).
- Direct quoting: The main focus was on using comfort measures to determine patients’ satisfaction with the help of the GCQ that was “modified to be used for different populations in several studies” (McEwen & Wills, 2019, p. 233).
