Do We Truly Need Art in Our Lives?

Introduction

It should come as no surprise that art is under siege in this modern-day age. Any child today who shows a desire to pursue a career in the arts is advised to instead focus on other career paths. Today, art is seen as more of a hobby than an individual’s main source of income. Art represents cultural beliefs, practices, and identity while also assisting in the preservation of the diversity that constitutes our society. Art gives purpose to human lives and helps with an individual’s understanding of the world around them. Art is a universal language, it preserves culture and history, it adds beauty to human lives, and it is a form of entertainment for many.

Main body

Art has always existed for a long time in one form or another. It has a variety of activities such as painting, photography, music, sculpting, poetry, drawing, architecture, and photography (Barr 9). Looking back at history, the earliest form of art in human history was painting. As time went by, new forms of art such as theatre, photography, and music emerged. Since the beginning of time, humans have had a relationship with art. From prehistoric stone carvings to present forms of art, it is clear that art has been and always will be an integrated part of humanity, irrespective of race, cultural background, or political preference.

Individuals appreciate all forms of art in different ways. Some people prefer to involve themselves directly in the process of making art. These people are known as artists, while others prefer to just experience and enjoy it. In any case, the arts have a significant impact on how people perceive and connect with one another and the world generally. Art has such a tremendous amount of power in representing one’s thoughts. It can educate people on nearly any subject. Art has the ability to raise awareness and convey content in a style that is easily comprehensible by a large number of people.

Art is a means of expressing oneself, a way of having fun, and a means of making people comprehend things that cannot be expressed verbally. It is mostly thought of as a universal language that is used to tell stories (Papadopoulou 5). The use of art can be achieved in different ways. At times, the message that is being communicated is conspicuous, for instance, a celebratory image of a prominent political leader. Art frequently covers broad concepts, some of which can be more conspicuous compared to others, and art usually tends to reflect on the period of time in which the artwork was developed, sometimes as a gesture of support or a response to something (Ruiz-Cabrera 8). Art contributes to the aesthetic appeal of a location, and it is versatile. It does not only benefit us in managing more complicated mental and emotional issues and improving our health, but it also adds beauty to our lives.

Art preserves culture and history, it is considered a universal language and a way in which people can use it to express themselves. Every work of art, from animals and geometric drawings seen in early Neolithic cave drawings to Medieval portrait drawings, is a brief window back into the lives of individuals from different time periods throughout history. As we discover artifacts from all around the world, we learn about diverse societies that existed centuries ago. People can keep tabs on contemporary cultural trends and draw lessons from previous societal problems. People can also be inspired by past artworks and artifacts and develop newer forms of art as a result. Art can be described as timeless and a stark reminder of various periods in human history.

Art plays a major role in human education and development. Art stimulates multiple sections of the brain, which promotes human development when it comes to learning and understanding complex concepts (Nozimovich et al. 7). It provides a visual representation instead of just words or figures, allowing individuals the capability to tackle problems from a different perspective. Art is crucial in the development of children. Some of the areas in which art plays an important role are critical thinking skills, language, motor skills, social skills, and creativity. Students learning to develop and recognize beauty and elegance from an early age could prove to be more crucial than ever for future generations.

Conclusion

In conclusion, over the years, art has proved to be an integral part of human history, it is therefore, important and very much needed in our lives. Art is considered by many to be a form of entertainment, as engaging in different forms of art acts as a sort of distraction, allowing people to be relaxed. For instance, listening and dancing to music and poems for entertainment and relaxation purposes. Both artists and viewers find art entertaining as it offers a sense of pleasure and enjoyment in different ways. Art is a universal language, it preserves culture and history, it adds beauty to human lives, and it is a form of entertainment for many. We, therefore, need art in our lives.
