Failure of General Howe in Winning a Quick Victory Against American Rebels

General William Howe was to blame for Britain’s failure to win quickly over American rebels. The American Revolution occurred between 1775 and 1783 depicting a fierce military conflict against British troops (Smith, 2017). It is during the war that the latter failed to capitalize on presented opportunities of advancing further into American territories. The soldiers were more advanced in military expertise and weaponry than their counterparts. Unfortunately, they were unable to progress further into American zones due to failures at executive leadership positions in the military. General Howe was to blame for the failure of winning a quick victory due to a lack of aggression and diligent military tactics.

Military conflicts are characterized by fierceness and aggression against an opponent. Officers participating in the war are expected to deploy strategies aimed at preventing enemies from advancing. General Howe’s personality contributed significantly to the British’s failure during the American Revolution (Smith, 2017). For instance, the executive military officer ordered his troops not to attack New York to avoid civilian casualties among the slaves. American rebels took advantage of the General’s personality to raise a strong rebellion against a progressive military in British troops.

The American Revolution required objective strategies as both parties were determined to win the war. General Howe lacked military tactics which would enable the British to advance deep into American territories. He ordered the implementation of misguided strategies against the rebels who learned how to challenge the invasion expertly. The lack of enough officers on southern battlefields made his strategies more unsuccessful. Moreover, over-relying on intelligence from the British population in America also made his strategies ineffective. In essence, General Howe’s letdowns in implementing unsuccessful military tactics contributed substantially to the British’s failure in winning a quick victory against American rebels.
