Canadians are well known for having a pessimistic attitude toward people who are suffering from mental illnesses. A stigma is a term used to describe the practice of treating people with special conditions in an unconventional manner. In the same vein, discrimination refers to when a person is treated unfairly and without being aware of the underlying facts. As long as civil and human rights are respected, and if all parties work together to eliminate stigmatization and discrimination, the vices can be eliminated.

Learning Activity

By providing the house management with expert knowledge on mental health and basic human necessities, they can perpetuate stigmatization in the community mental health setting of the Parkdale house. The occupants are subjected to poverty and substandard housing, and they are not even given the most basic of assistance or listened to. Some people are evicted from their homes simply because they are unable to control their temper tantrums. In addition to being denied their fundamental rights, the mates are treated as if they are unfit to participate in holiday celebrations such as Christmas. They have also accepted that they will be denied everything that they deserve and that they will be stigmatized for their involuntary mental conditions; the resultant effect of this is depression and extreme despair, which in turn leads to even more mental illnesses.

Preventing the deprivation of basic needs such as a decent place to live, good environmental conditions, and humane treatment is essential for survival. In the artifact, a series of stories are described, each featuring a different character who is subjected to some form of discrimination, deprivation, or stigma in one way or another. The characters suffer from a great deal of neglect and, in some cases, abuse simply because of their conditions; this series of systematic discrimination would frequently result in depression, sulking, and low self-esteem in the characters.

Disabled people frequently experience various forms of stigma and discrimination, which can include physical actions, emotional reactions, and psychological reactions. Sometimes their rights are violated, and they may be unable to defend themselves because of a lack of resources. As a result, disability studies are an excellent fit for the unit.


To be human, we must treat everyone with the utmost respect and care regardless of their medical or mental conditions. This topic addresses the issue of stigma by encouraging everyone to speak out and act against it, as well as discrimination, deprivation, and other prejudices that people suffering from mental illnesses are subject to. The artifact used in this unit describes a series of difficulties that people with disabilities are experiencing and suggests ways in which we can all stand together to oppose the discriminatory treatment of people with disabilities.

In this unit, the most important lesson learned is that people with caring hearts and respect for human rights should use all available means to put an end to discrimination and stigmatization. It will be extremely beneficial to the site if this unit is implemented because it describes a series of related stories in the most vivid manner possible. The concise description of the events in the unit establishes a clear call to action, and all readers will be aware of what they must do to escalate the situation appropriately.

The readers of this work are placed in the shoes of the victim, eliciting empathy on their part. People who are sympathetic to the situation are more likely to take a course of action and work as a group to put an end to the perpetration of such vices in society. Important pieces of information, such as those found in this unit, are beneficial in that they provide background knowledge that can be used to develop a clear-cut plan of action for dealing with the issue. With all of these advantages and more, it is highly recommended that the unit be purchased.
