The Health Provider Workforce and Services: Current Demographics
One of the main peculiarities of the US population is that it becomes older. Remembering the statistics of the previous years, people rarely lived up to 90-100 about 100-200 years ago. The tendency has changed dramatically. More and more people live longer and it makes the number of aged people increase each year. In spite of complex situation in the world, environment problems, lack of natural resources, poverty, hunger and other global problems, more and more people each year live longer that resulting in an aging US population. Dwelling upon the changes in the working population, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention considers the following statistics, the working population aged from 16 to 24 will decrease from 14.8% to 12.7%, the expected increase of working population aged from 24 up to 25 is 2.4%, and the grows by 46.7% is expected of the working population aged from 55 years and above (Changing Demographics, 2011).
It means that the places for work should be reconsidered. It is important to change the whole healthcare system to meet the requirements of aging people. Nowadays we have the system which presupposes the adaptation of healthcare principles to the needs of the aging population. However, considering the statistical data, it may be concluded that the whole system of healthcare should be changed to meet the requirement of the increasing aging population and to make others adapt to it. The interests of the majority should be met and in the created circumstances the aging population should be the target of the reform (Ageing, 2011).
